My Toys

When I was around 6, I got my first camera at a garage sale for 35 cents.  It took square black and white pictures and had fixed exposure and focus. It had no need for a battery.  In high school I got my dad's old Pentax 35mm camera, probably from the early 70's.  It had 3 lenses (35, 50, 150) that screwed on very slowly and a light meter that was a needle sticking in from the side.  When the needle was horizontal the exposure was good. After college I got a "modern" Pentax 35mm film camera with a lens that was called a zoom lens.

I started digital with Canon but jumped to Sony as I wanted into smaller and mirrorless before Canon was ready to take me there. I now shoot with my a6400 and a6000.

Now on the computer side, I got a Franklin (Apple II clone) in college that had dual floppy disks and an amber monitor aka no color except orange. I graduated college as an EE but within a few years I was doing embedded software. I have used Linux, Windows, and Macs as development platforms to develop embedded, windows tooling, and Android applications. I have also used all 3 OS's personally. I'm still waiting for one system that can do everything for me.

I have created my own photo workflow and other applications/tools related to my photography in Windows, Android, and currently iPadOS.

Current Passions

My current passions are photograph, programming, hiking, and camping aka experiencing nature. These all tie together well in that the photography I like (macro, wildlife, and a touch of landscape) are all out in nature, and I use programming to improve my photo workflow as well as to help me archive and experience my photos.

I'm lucky enough to live in California which has plenty of great nature to enjoy.

Work

I'm not interested in working full time but if you have something interesting that you think I could help with, reach out and we can talk about it.
